Anjuman-e-Himayath-e-Islam (AHI) is a community-driven, professionally managed charitable and educational organization, rooted in Islamic principles and dedicated to transforming lives through compassion, knowledge, and empowerment.
Founded on the 27th day of the Holy month of Ramadhan in 1307 AH (1890 AD) by a group of devoted community leaders under the visionary initiative of His Highness M. Munawar Khan Bahadur, the then Prince of Arcot, AHI began as a humble “Home” inside the Walajah Masjid in Triplicane, Madras. It provided food and shelter to deserving Muslim orphan boys at a time when such support was critically needed.
As word of AHI’s services spread, children from across the state sought assistance, leading the organization to continuously expand its reach through fundraising initiatives. Over the years, AHI acquired numerous properties—some through donations, and others via purchases—which have provided sustainable revenue streams to support and grow its welfare efforts. These resources are now used to nurture and educate disadvantaged children and women.
Registered under the Societies Registration Act in 1894, AHI has evolved into a professionally governed institution with 18 functional units, overseen by a dedicated governing body of 48 members, including a President, Honorary Secretary, and Honorary Treasurer. Our policies are transparent and structured, ensuring accountability and effective delivery of services.
Today, AHI stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment, offering a wide range of educational, healthcare, and vocational programs. Our mission is to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them realize their potential and lead meaningful lives. We invite donors, volunteers, and community partners to join us in creating lasting, positive change.
Insha Allah, we aspire to build a vibrant, professionally managed social, charitable, and educational organization grounded in true Islamic values to:
To establish a state of the art integrated system of services related to human growth and development that will enable every disadvantaged child to lead a more purposeful, meaningful and complete life.
